Unbelievable Video: Woman Taunts Cheetahs Up Close

October 25, 2011 Video 4 Comments

I am not sure what to think of this video I recently discovered. Here you have a woman ride a motorcycle up to a group Cheetahs and start taunting them. They threaten her in return.

At the end of the video she is petting one of them and it licks her hand. At first I thought she was trying to commit suicide and then at the end it was obvious this was not in the wild, or it seems it could not be.

My guess is that this is a game farm and they are used to her and other humans.

I find it intriguing and also quite sad. These magnificent creatures being teased for no reason I can figure, but then the ‘reality show’ part of it has me intrigued.

Movie Production Company Seeks Golden Eagle Footage

August 26, 2011 Video No Comments

A motion picture production company is looking for footage of a GOLDEN EAGLE (NOT a bald eagle). The footage will be used for playback on a small TV set. We are looking for footage that someone is willing to provide in exchange for his or her footage being used in a small independent film featuring Nicole Kidman. We will pay for hard costs of dubbing and shipping.

The shots are quoted from the script – please use that as a guide; the prey needs to be a rabbit:

• “a golden eagle is casting its haughty eyes down at the world below from the top of a tree on a high cliff”
• “same eagle is circling in the sky and then quickly diving at its prey”
• “the eagle is feasting on a rabbit”

How To Price Commercial Video Production

June 11, 2011 Business, Pricing, Video No Comments

As more photographers look at jumping into the video business to supplement their creative energy and their photography income, new and unforeseen challenges have occurred for a few.

In the business there is a difference on how photographers price assignments and how videographers price a production.  Over a Rob Haggert’s aPhotoeditor blog, a reader asked that questions: “Is it a director’s fee or do we tag a usage fee? According to the agency, when they hire a Director for a broadcast commercial; he/she will get paid a director’s fee and the client will own the commercial outright.”

Former art buyers Amanda Sosa Stone and Susan Sease jumped into to answer the question and it was educational to read their input on all the intricacies of commercial video production. “Videos shot for broadcast vs. videos shot for non-broadcast purposes require adherence to different rules and regulations. Either way, hire the appropriate motion producer to help you navigate through this complexity.”

It is not so simple a process as taking pictures and getting paid. Their are agent fees, directors fees, and union rules as well. If you are thinking of entering commercial video production then this is a worthy read.

George Steinmetz Photographs and Films Africa by Air

National Geographic photographer George Steinmetz’s project African Air in a collaboration with multimedia company Mediastorm, was recently completed. What makes this project interesting is that Steinmetz photographed and filmed most of the project from the air and specifically from a motorized Paraglider.

The result is some fantastic perspectives of Africa’s unique variety of landscapes and from heights that would more challenging for an airplane to reach.

Flying in a motorized paraglider over one of the most diverse continents in the world, George Steinmetz captures in his photographs the stunning beauty, potential and hope of Africa’s landscapes and people. See the project at http://mediastorm.com/publication/african-air

Norwegian Photographer Terje Sorgjerd’s Time Lapse Video: The Mountain, Goes Viral

April 27, 2011 Techniques, Video 4 Comments

Time lapse photography and video is a popular techniques these days with nature photographers. It is a great way to tell stories and create dramatic visual performances and can be done by any photographer with a digital camera, tripod, and video software. No video camera needed!

Norwegian photographer Terje Sorgjerd has created a beautiful video titled The Mountain and its popularity has taken it viral across the internet.

His photography is wonderful and his camera moves add to the spectacular effects, but for me, what makes my jaw drop is how he captured unbelievable images of the Milk Way. The images are breathtaking.

How did he do it? How did he capture those exposures showing so much color of outer space? He chose to shoot from Spain’s highest mountain, El Teide, and from a very high altitude and that surely helped eliminate atmospheric conditions, but there still seems their could be more. Watch the video after the jump and you can decide. … Continue Reading
