He uses nothing other than lights on a string and long exposures. and shoots in a variety of unique locations. This project is nothing short of brilliant and Denis has blasted onto the scene and garnered international attention with his project and a documentary film. We got in touch with Denis to ask him about Balls of Light. … Continue Reading

Around The World With Adventure Expedition Photographer Ace Kvale

Around The World With Adventure Expedition Photographer Ace Kvale

Ace Kvale’s photography is a celebration of the human element—a study of rich cultures and extreme climates, a record of first ascents and descents. His images are powerful yet humble, and his passion for storytelling has translated into a remarkable talent for weaving a complete narrative through pictures.

Ace began his relationship with photography working in front of the lens as a ski model in the early eighties. This relationship shifted when he hitchhiked through Africa for five months, carrying a small manual Rollei camera. When he returned and showed his images to the professional photographers he knew, they urged him to make it a career. Ace had witnessed the world in a different way—through a viewfinder—and he’s never looked back since.

Thirty years later, now one of the world’s top adventure photographers, Ace has traveled to more than sixty countries. He’s participated in twenty-five expeditions to Asia and the Himalaya, and he’s worked with many of the world’s best athletes. He’s hung from helicopters in the Alps and skied first descents in Alaska. His images have appeared in dozens of magazines, from National Geographic to The National Enquirer. He’s contributed imagery to dozens of books and movies, and shot portraits of celebrities from Jerry Garcia to Tiger Woods. We are pleased to have the oportunity to interview Ace. … Continue Reading

We discovered Tyler being featured on the National Geographic Adventure website and asked him to tell us a little about his career.

Please tell us how you got started & how long you have been in the business.

I got into outdoor adventure photography in the mid 90’s with documenting my friends snowboarding & skateboarding. Skateboarding was a big part of my life back then, we wanted to remember & capture certain tricks of the random places we ventured to.  Seems that I always had my camera on my side with a fixed 50mm & a roll of B&W film in it.

Since then my photography has merged into other outdoor aspects that I love, such as mountain biking, hiking, camping, climbing & the outdoor lifestyle. I majored in the outdoor field through Oregon State University by getting a Bachelors Degree in Tourism & Outdoor Leadership. While still in school & taking business classes I decided it was time to make myself an official entity & I started my photography business. … Continue Reading

Unknown Street Photographer About to Join the Ranks of Legendary Photographers

Every once in a while something undiscovered in the world of photography comes about and that is the case in this story and it is pretty exciting. John Maloof, of Chicago, was attending an auction of unclaimed storage units when he bid on a box full of negatives and other items.

As he later began exploring the contents he discovered over 30,000 B&W negatives and scores of undeveloped rolls of film belonging to an unknown street photographer by the name of Vivian Maier. Sifting through the images John began to see images of well known Chicago people, historic events, and streets scenes from the 50′s through the 90′s. John realized he had found a gold mine.

Vivian Maier was a Chicago nanny for various families for 50 years. Without a family of her own, she spent most of her free time off exploring the streets of Chicago documenting many aspects of life in the city. Apparently a reclusive person, her work was never seen or shown anywhere insuring her anonymity, until now. She died in 2008 leaving her photography unclaimed. But there’s more……. … Continue Reading
